Sustainable Golf

At Dubai Hills Golf Club, we are deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. We believe in taking proactive measures to protect our planet and reduce our ecological footprint. From implementing energy-efficient practices and reducing single-use plastics to enhancing biodiversity on our grounds, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. Our efforts extend beyond the golf course as we strive to inspire and educate our community about the importance of conservation and responsible environmental practices. By fostering a culture of sustainability, we aim to create a positive impact on our environment and contribute to a greener, cleaner future for generations to come.

INITIATIVES

NO MORE PLASTIC BOTTLES

At Dubai Hills Golf Club, we’re on a mission to lead by example in environmental stewardship, and we need your help! By bringing your reusable water bottle and utilising our conveniently located water dispensers throughout the club, you’re not only hydrating yourself during your game but also actively participating in our commitment to reducing plastic waste.

Imagine the impact we can make together! Annually, through our collective efforts to eliminate the use of single-use 500ml bottles, we estimate that we’re preventing a staggering 75,000 bottles from ending up in landfills or polluting our precious environment. It’s a small change for each individual, but when combined, it creates a ripple effect of positive change that resonates far beyond the golf course.

Thank you for joining us on this journey towards environmental responsibility. Your small action today makes a significant difference tomorrow! 🌿⛳.

THE BENEFITS OF TURF REDUCTION

When assessing turf reduction, we recognised numerous advantages in our choice to eliminate the maintained turf under the Gaff trees.

This decision led to reduced water consumption and maintenance needs, preserving valuable resources like time and fuel, consequently contributing to the reduction of our carbon footprint.

Moreover, it played a crucial role in safeguarding the roots of the native Gaff trees, recognised as a protected species in the UAE. Additionally, this initiative facilitated the introduction of more native plant species, including the visually appealing Sporobolus grass which is very heat and drought tolerant due to its deep rooted nature.

Sustainablity Pledge

We have taken our first steps as a club to pledge our commitment to becoming GEO Certified. There are many aspects to becoming a sustainable golf club. Fostering the nature we find on the golf course encouraging flora and fauna creating and protecting habitats and valuable ecosystems. Conserving resources by using less water and energy to recycling green waste. Strengthening communities providing a range of social values, including healthy recreation and a welcoming inclusive environment with close links to local authorities.
